Oklahoma Outreach Program

In September 2024, the Rainbow Youth Project made a significant stride in supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Oklahoma by establishing the Oklahoma Outreach Program and opening an office in Oklahoma City. This initiative was a direct response to the increasing demand for specialized support services for 2SLGBTQ+ youth across the state. The tragic suicide of Nex Benedict highlighted the urgent need for such services, as it led to a staggering 300% increase in calls to our national crisis resource hotline from Oklahoma. While we had already formed robust partnerships with various agencies and organizations and were providing support to hundreds of young people in the state, the necessity for a dedicated physical location and comprehensive on-the-ground services became undeniably clear.
